Fiji Islands Yacht Charter - 14 days

Cruising Fiji on a yacht charter is very relaxing. Many of the passages are inside the reef and of reasonably short duration. The Mamanuca and Yasawa islands offer fine beaches and a sunny climate being the dry side of Fiji. The Lomaiviti Islands offer the best diving and snorkelling in Fiji, mixed with some of Fiji’s history. This yacht charter trip is easily undertaken in reverse if weather conditions are more favourable in the first week.

Fiji Yacht Charters

DAY 1: Join VvS1 at her berth in Port Denarau Marina. We’ll depart soon after for Musket Cove (1 ½ hrs) at Malolo lailai island, in the Mamanuca group. There are several resorts here, great snorkelling, and, if the tide is out, an isolated sand bank to explore.

DAY 2: Depart for Mana Island (1 hr) for great snorkelling, beach visit, or a shark dive if you are keen. Depending on the swell, we may return to Malolo Island for a calm anchorage.

DAY 3: Motor north to Navadra Island (1 1/2 hrs), fishing along the way. The island is uninhabited and completely unspoilt. Stunning beaches and the best snorkelling in the Mamanucas.

DAY 4: Head to the bottom of the Yasawa island chain to Nanuya Balavu Island to snorkel with Manta Rays – or just look from the tender. Carry on up to Soso Bay for an overnight anchorage. We’ll present a sevusevu here to the local village to seek permission to anchor in their bay. This may lead onto a Kava ceremony for those who are keen to try out the local brew.

DAY 5: Its about 3 hours underway to Nanuya Levu - the ‘Blue Lagoon’ made famous by the movie starring Brooke Shields. It’s a good place for Beach visits, Kayaking, Diving, and water sports. Experience a Lovo (Fijian feast cooked in the ground) on the beach at Otto and Fanny’s place, with Fijian Music and Kava.

DAY 6: Spend the morning at Blue Lagoon. Hand feed the fish on the nearby coral patch. After lunch we’ll make our way down to Malakati Village for a ‘Meke’ - traditional Fijian dancing and singing. Remain here the night if there’s not too much swell.

DAY 7: It’s a short trip further along the Yasawa Island chain to Sawa-i-Lau. Swim in the caverns, and for the brave, swim underwater and surface inside a cave. These caves also feature in the Blue Lagoon movie.

DAY 8: Motor to the top end of Yasawa Island, stopping at ‘Champagne Beach’. Visit the village for local handicrafts. It’s a good start point for the longer voyage tomorrow.

DAY 9: A longer day today, about 6 hours to Nananu-i-Cake. We can drop you off at VoliVoli Beach resort to connect with a taxi for a trip into the town of Rakiraki. Visit the market and see how everyday Fijian’s live.

DAY 10: Head South following the coast of Viti Levu part of the way to Naigani (4 hours). Bbq on the beach for dinner.

DAY 11: Its 1 ½ hours down to the town of Levuka on Ovalau Island. Take a stroll around the town – Fiji’s first capital before it was shifted to Suva. If you smell something fishy, it might be the tuna cannery at the southern end of town.

DAY 12: We can take the long way around Ovalau to Cagalai, or a shorter but probably rougher 1 ½ hour trip. Take a walk around the island, and at low tide walk along the reef to snake Island for great snorkelling. The Sevusevu at the local village may turn into a full kava session for those who are keen.

DAY 13: A three hour motor will take us to Makogai Island. This island was once home to the South Pacific’s only Leprosy Hospital, with the foundations still remaining. The villagers will proudly show you their generator made in 1912 which is still supplying their power.

DAY 14: Its time to make our way back toward Denarau. 4 ½ hours will see us anchored in the lee of Nananu-i-ra with plenty of time for a walk ashore. Teppanyaki dinner on the Flybridge.

DAY 15: An early start with breakfast underway as we head along to top of Viti Levu sheltered inside the reef for the 6 hour trip to Denarau marina.
